What can organization do for you?

“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” – Anonymous.

1. TIME

One thing you can never get back- time. And organization can give you back your time. How?

Your time spent searching is reduced. When your possessions are orderly and consistently in the same location this allows you to go right to what you need. Instead of spending 10 minutes looking for your keys, the pain reliever, or a matching lid for your water bottle you know right where those items are when you require them.

Best of all, when your items are organized, you’re more inclined to put it back where you found it when you’re done.

2. MONEY

When you have systems in place for where things belong, it’s more likely you will see what you have on hand. This saves you from running out to buy more of something because you can’t find what you’re looking for. When you can’t locate your charger, corkscrew, or the right type of batteries you will most likely purchase a replacement. Sometime later you will probably find what you were looking for and now you have more that needed of that particular item.

Having an organized home will save money and space in the long run.

3. MAINTENANCE

When a space is organized, you are more likely to maintain it. And when it does become untidy, you’ll find it’s faster to reset the space. We like to use the example of the flatware drawer. The order of forks with forks, spoons with spoons, etc is typically maintained well once the system is in place. And when something is misplaced it’s easily identified as out of place and is a quick fix.

Organization is about more than storing things. It creates streamlined communication of where things belong.

One of our favorite organizing systems is a 3 tier rolling cart. Read this blog post here for ways we use it!

4. CALM

Organized spaces provides calming space and clear boundaries for what you own and what comes into your home in the future. Many of us put up with “visual clutter” without even realizing it’s a thing! Organization can reduce the amount of “noise” visually by creating uniformity, cohesiveness, and a place for everything. This also allows other members of the household to know where items belong. And as far as boundaries, when a bin or container is full, this provides a clear signal it’s time to edit.

TAKE BACK YOUR HOME

Our homes are the places where we live life on the daily. They are more than drop off areas, pass-through zones, and sleeping quarters. Make your home a place you long to be with simple systems to enhance your daily life.

Which of these: TIME, MONEY, MAINTENANCE, CALM, could you use in your home?
