3 tier rolling cart ideas to keep you organized in all areas of your life.

No doubt you are familiar with the 3 Tier Rolling cart by now. You can find them in the big box stores like Target, Walmart, & Costco. They are sold online on Amazon. And of course one of our favorite places, The Container Store has them available in multiple colors & sizes, and you can purchase various accessories to maximize their usefulness. Before we get to the ideas, let’s talk about why you might need a 3 tier cart in the first place.

WHY A 3 TIER CART?

A 3 tier cart is great for 3 reasons: (see what we did there? 😉)

  • Has a small footprint taking up limited space.
  • Utilizes the vertical aspect of organization where you might not have it.
  • Easily moved around your home.

There are also other bonuses like- it grows with you and can be used for many different reasons depending on your season of life (example: you buy it to hold diaper changing supplies but when your baby becomes a toddler it holds books. Then when he is a little older perhaps it turns into a lego cart.) It’s also easy to clean. So having it hold baking ingredients, shoes, or gardening tools is not a problem.

All in all this cart is something useful over many years in areas where space is limited. Which brings us to the where…

WHERE DO I USE A 3 TIER CART?

In short- anywhere!! But the longer answer would be someplace where you are lacking storage but need storage. Especially if you live in a dorm, apartment, or someplace temporarily and can’t commit to installing an organization system. These carts are also useful in a workspace/office area where square footage and budgets are often limited.

Now let’s get to the ideas, and in case you missed it, we already gave a few up above 😉

10. HOME WORKOUT SPACE

Because this cart is sturdy, you will have no trouble storing a few lighter hand weights in the baskets. But it can also hold items like bands, jump ropes, water bottles, shoes, towels, and with a few accessories on the side that could allow yoga mat storage.

9. TOY & GAME STORAGE

Add some small bins or zippered pouches and you have a great solution to storing tiny toys. And bonus- when playtime is over you can wheel the cart into a closet.

8. ACCESSORIES

Hats, belts, clutches, jewelry, and scarves are all great items to store in this cart. Don’t forget you can use drawer dividers, bins, and even storage accessories on the sides of the cart to keep it all tidy.

7. LUNCH PACKING ZONE

6. MULTI-PURPOSE DRAWER & DROP ZONE

If your home is tight on storage, use this cart as a substitute for a drawer or zone. In fact each tier can act as a a separate function. The top tier can be mail & paper work storage. Use an upright paper sorter and label each slot- inbox, outgoing, to-do. Store your pens, tape, scissors, post-its, keys, chargers, and spare change in small bins in the second tier. The bottom tier could be your purse, sunglasses, or whatever else you need as you head out the door each day. Here’s a reel on using this cart as a drop zone!

5. BATHROOM STORAGE

Again if you are lacking drawers or cabinets in your bathroom, this cart can solve that problem. Hair products, toiletries, makeup, backstock, toilet paper, even towels & washclothes can be stored here. Wheel it out when needed, and wheel it out of the way when you grab what you need.

4. FIRST AID & MEDICAL

Don’t have a medicine cabinet? No problem! Store our bandaids, antibacterial creams, Tylenol, thermometer, vitamins, and allergy meds in this cart. Just one small disclaimer that probably goes without saying but we should say it anyways 😉 if you do use this cart for medical supplies, please keep medications out of reach of children. Some childproof bins might be a great option if you use the cart for this purpose.

3. ARTS & CRAFTS CART

Set up your crafts on the kitchen table and then wheel the supplies away at the end of the day! Each tier could be used for a different type of craft. The detachable cups on the sides are excellent for scissors, tapes, pens, and stickers.

2. GUEST ROOM CART

Make your guests feel right at home with some easy but impactful supplies. Water bottles, towels, non-perishable snacks, books or magazines about the local scene, travel size toiletries, or some spare bedding are all items that can be displayed & stored in this cart.

and last but not least,

1. HOMEWORK STATION

Never again will you hear “I can’t find a pencil” when your kids are settling in to their homework time. Keep everything they might need right at their fingertips- pencils, a sharpener, crayons, rulers, notebook paper, calculators, water bottles, snacks, and scissors. If you homeschool, giving each child their very own school cart cuts down on time spent looking for their school items and they can take their cart wherever they want to complete their work. And yet another reel putting this idea into practice!
